New Years Project: The Elven House

Good New Year good folk!

How were your celebrations? I wish all the very best for you in this new year, remember it is never too late to start anew all it takes is the courage and work!__________________________________________________________

I wanted to share my new years project with you a little. This project came close to convincing me to see how fast and hard I could throw it at the wall..

I did not calculate the arid climate in my house, as it is winter and dry.. when thinking on the paperclay drying.

So it has ended up with a million cracks. My concept for this house was a very clean smooth looking house.. but after being a big ole baby about it.. and taking a breath...maybe a couple of glasses of wine... I figured I can make this work and just have a cottage look to it and go with the cracking flow ;)

It is a work in progress but I thought I would share some sculpting shots.

The Elven House..er Cottage

This project started out as a thought of turning one of the Half scale houses I purchased from my Greenleaf win into a elven styled house. After using my paper patterns I realized that it would be too much patching work and about 80% would be remade anyways.

So I decided on gator board. While using the Arthur as a size guide.

This uses homemade paper clay.. but the version for this is a bit different. Paper mache' Clay. I will get into it a bit later.

I decided on making a dragon scale patterned roof for this, as this look is from a lot of my geek...er RPG games and it fit the slope and style of the roof nicely.

A lot more work to be done! I want to encourage you folks to try some toilet paper clay room boxes or roofs for 2014, lets learn together!

What are you working on for this new year??

  1. I love houses...all types of houses. And I love the shape or your house!!! Absolutely love it!! You are great at doing everything Jane!! Wow!! Every time I came to this blog I see something even more amazing that the thing you did previously!! As for the cracks...I can't see them on the pics but I believe you....anyway, shouldn't they add to the rustic feeling of the cottage?? I love it, love it, love it!!

    1. Thank you very kindly hon ;) I do think the cracks add a bit of character to the stone and while I will fill and hide a few the rest will just be part of the design.

      hugs!

    1. Oh the ancestor house is a beauty though! The good thing about the love of all these houses, is they can sit like houses do while we jump around and play ;P

  5. Hi Jane, I love the shape of the roof line on this house! Oh, what fun this will be to decorate! I've got lots of ongoing projects I'd like to finish--the other half of Cupcake Cottage, Sophie's new Brambleberry Cabin, and decorating houses for my Sylvanian families, including my 1960s tin dollhouse, the 1960s pop-up ranch, and a squirrel log! Thanks for some inspiration! xo Jennifer

  7. The cottage looks fabulous. I love the dragon scale roof. I'd love to learn to use the toilet paper paper clay. I'd better get a few other things done first though before I have a try.

  8. Hello dear creative Jane, This house is a project only you can lift up. The roof itself looks complicated but you manage to find solutions. It will be wonderful to follow your project and learn.
I'll be happy if I manage to finish half of my last year's project, but new things and ideas distract me. Any thing is good for me as long as it keeps me busy and interested.
    Hugs, Drora

I hope to work on my forever dollhouse this year and finally wire the darn thing. I do not like construction...I'm more the decorator but I must push past this and finish it. You definitely inspire me!

  11. OHH VERY VERY NICE... This is a great use of TP Miss Jane! I love the details you added like the vines and the dragon scale roof. And its only the 5th and you have already built another house CONGRATS. I can only imagine what it will look like once you add a little color. Will you be making furniture for the inside as well? Ohh the mental juices are already a flowin...this makes me want to get my foam core house out.

  13. I think you did a great job despite the cracks! Love the roof! It must have taken so much time though D: I can't wait to see what you will create this year! On my side, I'll probably decorate and put some wallpaper on my Sylvanian Families Dollhouse, learn how to sew some dresses and hopefully learn how to take better photos!

    1. haha, no its simply homemade paper clay. There are many recipes on the web but the main ones use toilet paper as a supply.
