Janes, 1:48, 1:6, 1:24 post: aka Jane Scatterbrain, also a question for you?

This post is really just about a question I have for all of you mini folks around the world in each your individual countries..for a future spring..thing *wink*

But I thought I would also fill it with random pictures of things, since that is how the cookies bounce around in my head ;)

Ok, so my question to you folks in other countries outside the states is: Do you have access to a product called foam board? It is the paper covered 3/16th inch thickness or 5mm board you can carve for small roomboxes projects etc?  Normally used in offices or art shops.

And if you can get it is it inexpensive where you live? A dollar/currency for a large sheet? Please let me know in comments or google etc if this is a product you can get. Thanks for your assistance.

Now on to the ramblings of scale:

1:6  We got my daughter the Barbie Dreamhouse for Christmas, its a massive thing 3 ft tall and 6 rooms, they came fully furnished so it is a pretty nice buy. It can be used for monster high and Barbie

1:24 The Elven Cottage sits on my work desk, I got impatient and painted the front a bit. I may work on it later...*sigh*

1:48 I took out some of the 1/4 scale furniture I got and played around with painting it, I am eager to start this smaller scale...eager..butterflies..elevator music in my head....

It is quite cute isn't it? little pots on it...maybe some tiny, tiny food..
..where was I ?

Maybe I should tie my balloon head down to one scale?
..nah..

  1. Your daughter looks quite happy with that wonderful dollhouse :))
When was six I put a note under my pillow and asked the tooth fairy for a real pony ...she brought me a doll house , I was a wee bit disappointed but I adapted and eventually enjoyed the wonders little dollhouses bring with them ( although I do now make up for not having got the first wish by buying my own ponies ) .
That was too much information wasn't it. lol
To be fair I now love both ...little doll houses and little ponies !

  2. Hiya Jane, Barbie has all the good stuff doesn't she?!?! I remember back in the day i soo wanted the pool so all her friends could come over and have a pool party. Unfortunately my evil shortcakes would kick barbie out and take over!! lol I like what your doing with the dragon scale it is coming along very nice. Never limit yourself to one scale otherwise how will you fill that little cranny of space. Plus it gives the mind a challenge.

    1. I agree about the scale, and it defends my rattler brain ;P I think the glitter houses made the smaller scales a feasible thing ;)

  4. LOL, your mood mirrors mine. My head is all over te place :-) Love your daughter's doll house. Loved Barbie when I was young, still do and have loooooots of them!
I especially love your Elven house. It is so pretty and organic!
As for foam board, I have it. Used it for the sofa in my modern house, and the bed, oh and the kitchen cabinets in the Big house.... I was lucky to have some boards from an advertising agency and kept them for years! It's 0,5 cm thick but I also bought some: 1 cm thick. Dimensions are 50 x 65 cm and the price is € 6,95. I buy it in an office supplies store. It is also sometimes called maquette / architect board because architects make their models form it right? (this for Fabiola, helps find the Italian equivalent). Now please, don't ask me to convert cm into inches! I failed Math miserably!
Very curious what you've cooked up!

  5. What a wonderful dollhouse for your daughter. She'll have a great time playing with it.
About the foam board - we have it in 0.5 cm and 1 cm thickness. I use it a lot for my room boxes.
Last time I bought it was about 2 years ago. If I remember right it was about the equivalent of 6 US$ for a whole sheet of 0.5 cm thickness.
I'm not asking what you are about to do with this information, not because I'm not curious but because I know you'll tell us soon.
    Hugs, Drora

  8. There must be something in the air, because I am scattered lately as well. I have so many projects on the brain :). I'm glad I am not alone....
Barbie sure has the life, doesn't she? That house is amazing! I am sure your daughter will be redesigning it soon...if she takes after her Mommy. :-)

  9. Hi Jane! That's a lovely Barbie dollhouse your daughter received.. A little girl's dream come true, that's for sure! Even an elevator! Wow! She'll have so much fun with it. I get my foam board from Michael's and sometimes at the dollar store.

  12. Hi Jane, It's always great to hear from you. I love that you're cooking up some kind of project! Yes, I can get foam board here, and also gator board (don't know if that's spelled correctly, lol!). I love the photo of your daughter and her new Barbie Dream House. I'm secretly hoping you two end of turning it into a Monster High palace like the other one! And, yes, I too have many projects going at the same time. I never want to finish the boring parts--I just want to move on to the next fun thing! ;-) xo Jennifer

  14. What a wonderful Barbie's mansion! the cottage is so beautiful, and I have the same furnitures in 1:48 because I would like to make a dollhouse in that scale! I can find foam board, but, in my opinion, it's very expensive (more than 5€ an A3 size). I found it in stationery, craft sites and fine arts, and computer graphics sites. Although the price is 4 years since the last time I bought when I lived in Algeciras. Hugs.

  15. I've never heard of that productbut have google it. I can see it has many opportunities, but in Denmark sold it online and I can not see the price. The company writes that it be sent by special shipping as it is very fragile.
I do not think we in Denmark are competitive with other countries, we have in this country a tax on all goods 25%, and our shipping is sky-high. I buy therefore much abroad.
What a lovely Barbie house. My oldest daughter was a big Barbie fan. Everything is now packing in boxes and wait for the day she might have her own children.
Your daughter looks adorable in it must be so great that you can share all this mini.

  16. I always have more than one scale going, although I spend more time in quarter scale lately. I love how truly tiny everything is yet still able to have great details. I have always wondered if what I think of as foam board is the same as what is talked of. If it is, it's available at our Walmart between $2-$5. I've used it for additional walls before, cut it with a hot knife for a smooth edge.

  17. Hello Jane,
The elven cottage is wonderful. what an original project. Your daughter is lucky, that is a serious Barbie house.
As for the foamboard, you can get it here at craft shops. I think a 36 x 24 inch sheet costs a little less then $10 dollars. I used it in school to make models by using large sewing pins to hold it together.
    Big hug,
    Giac

  18. Elven Cottage is lovely!
I have same 1/4 furniture and just like you I have been planning to paint them. I bought last summer some little pots to put on.
Here in Finland we can get foam board and it cost quite the same as Bergium (Corine). One of my projects is to make 2 rooms made from foam board. With my friends we build a block of flats for an exhibition next summer.

  20. That's a really tiny miniature furniture set! The details are amazing on something so small! Oh I love love love Barbie dollhouses! I don't have much space in my apartment so I prefer folding houses but if I had a house, I would totally buy a big house for my dolls! You get a good deal if it's furnished. The furniture sets are ridiculously expensive!

  21. Here in Germany this foam board aren´t easy to buy. We get it in some DIY market but not at all. You´ve got to search long for a market if you want to buy this or we have got to buy this online and it costs about 20 USD per board+ shipping costs
Your daughter is adorable and I can´t wait to see more from your elven cottage!

  22. They have different names here in Sweden, kapaskiva and cellpannå. I don't know if its the same as you have. We have been talking about this foam board in a miniature group I'm in.. Is foam core board something else? Someone had bought that from the states and thought it was great, and that the foam board find in Sweden is weak and bend easy.. Here is a picture of cellpannå that we can buy online in Sweden. http://www.mattonbutiken.se/index/product/id/123900/search/foamboard/CELLPANNA_VIT_.html I never seen it in a store, only online =)

    1. That picture looks to be the same, it is paper covered somewhat firm inside, sometimes called modeling board, architect\t board, artist board.

It is a bit flimsy, you can certainly bend, or crimp it. But it is used to make dollhouses and roomboxes...if you only had a pattern ;)

  23. We have foam board here in the States! I am sure you can order it online. It's very cheap, like you said, about a dollar a sheet. It's probably more to ship it than to actually buy it! I would love for you to check out my giveaway going on this month! http://www.toddlindsey.com/2014/01/giveaway.html

  24. Oh my God.....the Elven Cottage is coming out to be wonderful....I soooooooooooooooooo love it!!!!!!!!! So, so love it!!! I absolutely like how you painted it, I love the colors you used for it. Your daughter Barbie's house looks very big...I had a Barbie house when I was a kid but those they make today are much much better!!! More luxury!! :) Anyway, she seems pretty happy with it!! The 1/48 scale.....might be a bit challenging....very very very small.....isn't it??? But usually the smaller, the better, the cuter!!! Have you found the foam board you are looking for??? I'm not sure right now but I'm very good at finding stuff online....if you are still looking, I'll have a look for you too!! I've been ordering polymer clay stuff and tools and wool and more stuff from any country in the world...honestly!! :)
