The Log Mansion: Staining, Trimming..Stone!

Good day good folks!

How has your spring/summer/fall going? We are just sitting in a weeks long rain, cold...crap. I hear there may be days of close to 65f / 18c... wow thanks nature..

Any way, lets do a update shall we?

I completed the alterations of the house by bumping out one wall to the edge of the kit and then creating a small mud room off the kitchen area. Stained the logs.More trim will need to be added.

The deck was scored into 12ft @ Halfscale 6 inch boards the deck is very large so going with a long board looked the best for this style. There will be a porch and railings. Ive created a base color on the paperclay foundation:

The interior gave me some trouble: At first I attempted to create a flat pine siding via scoring like the deck but the wood grain would not allow for this. So the second option was a plaster and wood look that you see in more modern cabins. For this house it will be rustic and modern so the mix will work.

I did a flagstone floor in the kitchen and mudroom. You can see the wood floors, and some of the trim/windows are being placed. Its so wet here the drying times on the stain/paint etc are taking a bit longer but I'm on schedule.

The wood tone on the interior is a nice Carmel brown color.

You can see there is quite alot of room in this great kit, even at this scale. 1:24th

This floor was created with paper clay then "grouted" and sealed since we need a level floor for the kitchen.

What do I mean in this scale? Well let thumb buddy show you. Here is thumb buddy on the stone fireplace..

You can see thumb buddy on the stone floor

More work to be done!

I hope your all keeping crafty or at least enjoying nice weather!!!

  6. Thumb Buddy is such a handy assistant. I think we should all have one! I'm really liking this build. I love the stains you have used on the outside and the floors. With the assistance of thumb buddy I am thinking I would like to experiment with 1/24th in the future. I love the 'smallness' but there is still plenty of opportunity for detail.

  8. The stones and stained floors of your Log Mansion look wonderful :)!
It looks like your thumb buddy has sniffed too much paint fumes in the rooms, whilst you were painting the floors there, cause he looks a bit drunk to me LOL ;O!! I love this funny guy!
I can't wait to see more of this project, it looks very promising, Jane :)!
Although the weather isn't fine, I wish you a lovely weekend.

  9. How come everything you do is so perfect?! Oh, it most be the talent you have! =) I really like the colour of the house, you manage to get a great colour, and I like the plaster inside too!
And the floors, wonderful, can't decide if I like the wooden floor better or the stone, both look so good! But who said I had to chose which was better, I can just say that both are great! =)
Your tumb buddy looks like a fun buddy!! Be careful with him, I think he looks like a great worker, he must be helpful in all this building =)

  14. Nice to meet Thumb Buddy - what a nice assistant... and a great helper! You've made wonderful progress, you two! ;O) It's impressive to see the possibilities of this kit - if it comes in the right hands (and the right thumb of course). You've worked some miracles so far with all the woodwork outside and the fantastic concept for the interior. I'm really looking forward to seeing more... of the house... and of Thumb Buddy... ;O)

  19. Love the addition of the mud room it gives a nice profile to the front of the house. Your floors are amazing! The grain of the hardwood looks great and the flagstone has great shape and depth. Overall I'm loving the colours and the way the different textures are working together. I really notice how well you've struck the balance of rustic without being to dark or overdone with wood. Looking forward to seeing it progress :D

  22. Wow... I am thrilled about all the details. Those of my Minibears who have seen this house, are offended now because they only got a crooked cardboard house in Halfscale from me. What a beautiful luxury home! Now there are a lot of bears who packed there things and like to travel to you because you could make them so much beauty things in this small size, and here by me there are not such amazing things *sigh* It has not always been easy with these furry little roommates
